Dr Karl-Heinz Hauptmann, main shareholder and founder of Qingdao Great River Hill Winery in the province of Shandong, China, visited it to taste its first vintage after three years of careful nurturing and hard work. Great River Hill's first wine will be a single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dr Hauptmann seemed very pleased with the quality of the young wine, made by the Chinese team, under Marc Dworkin's supervision. The grapes were only picked in the beginning of October, so the wine will fully mature after a few months. However the grapes' quality seems promising - they received moderate rainfalls and ample sunshine this year, so they did not only grow well, but contain high levels of sugar.
The wine will most possibly be released to the market in June, 2012. |
